Happy 4th Birthday, Natalie!!!

Natalie is 4 years old!   She is a sweet, spunky, and pinkalicious little girl.  One of my favorite things about her is that she takes her job as "little mommy" very seriously, and takes excellent care of her babies.  She is the perfect combination of sparkly girl and rough and tumble-keep-up-with-her brothers.  We love you Natalie!

Her birthday party was one of the highlights of her year.  Cinderella was a surprise and put on a magical princess-party!

Benjamin's Big Adventure...again...and again...

Remember Benjamin's big adventure last year? (see here)  Well, he was back at it again this year!  During the fall he had a few little colds, and ear infection and handled them with ease.  Our pediatrician even commented several times on how amazed he was that Benjamin didn't seem to show any residual effects of having RSV at such a young age.

Unfortunately, in March, it all fell apart.  Our poor little guy ended up being admitted twice to the hospital for respiratory issues, two weeks apart.  It was very scary, especially the first time.  He went from "runny nose and a little wheezing" to "holy crap this kid needs to go to the ER" in an instant.  Once again, we are lucky to live near an amazing children's hospital who handled Benjamin with such care.   And, we also have a good friend, who is a wonderful pediatric pulmanologist (how often does that come in handy????) who is now directing Benjamin's respiratory care.  We are very thankful that this looks like something that Benjamin will grow out of overtime.

So, now that we've established that he was okay,  here's the real scoop about having your 14 month old hospitalized.  It's all very scary, cuddly, and about keeping him comforted....that is, until they load him up with steroids and he starts to feel better.  By day 2 and 3 it becomes like trying to keep a crazed monkey in a poorly-built cage.  It was exhausting.  He didn't want to sleep, was not interested in TV at all, and he was not content to sit in his crib and play with the few toys that they brought to him.  Instead he spent the majority of his time trying to remove his own IV, rip all monitors off of his body, and perfect his ability to launch toys up and out of the crib.  He may have set some sort of record for setting off alarms at the nurses station.

All is well, and we are hoping for a drama-free summer!

During the first visit.  He's feeling better and we are finding creative ways to keep him busy.

The sweetest visitors!

Benjamin's Birthday Party

On January 4th, Benjamin turned ONE.  I already posted about that, and his birthday video can be found here.  But, here are a few pictures from his party.

I just loved the little elephant theme.  But, we did joke that it kind of looked like a "baby's first republican party"

This was his favorite present.  His own little chair.

The cake was really great, until he tried to eat it.  He hated it, and ended up happily eating fishy crackers.

Binge blogging...

Hello, hello...is there anyone still out there????  Probably not!  I've been missing in action from my blog for a long long long time.   In January, Benjamin turned 1 and started walking, and running, and climbing, and on and on.  Since then I've been chasing him around trying to keep him from swinging from the chandelier (literally.)  I just took a break in writing this to retrieve him from middle of the dining table.

Over the past few months I have had good intentions to blog, and lots to blog about.  And let me say, I have "written" some pretty hilarious, insightful, brilliant posts...at 12:30am...in my head.   Unfortunately, they never seem to make it from my head to the computer.

So, here's my big plan.  I'm going to binge blog.  Post more than anyone will want to read, but cover some of the highlights from January to June.  Hang in there with me! We will be caught up in no time!

Just for the record, in the time it took me to write the last two paragraphs, Benjamin broke into the art cupboard, grabbed a pair of scissors and was running laps with them.  He is absolutely sweet, but God has gifted him with an advanced ability to run fast, climb high, fall hard, and do it all again in about 5 minutes.   Forget blogging...I need a nap!
